The Sulphur Parachute is a dependable dry fly fishing fly designed to imitate the Ephemerella species of mayflies, known as Sulphurs. These insects hatch heavily in late spring and early summer, creating some of the most reliable dry fly action of the year. With its natural coloration and parachute design, this pattern offers the ideal blend of realism, buoyancy, and visibility.

Design / Features

The Sulphur Parachute features a slim, yellow-orange body, an upright post, and a parachute hackle that allows the fly to ride low and flush in the surface film. This design mimics mayflies freshly emerged and drifting downstream, a stage when trout often feed with outstanding selectivity. The parachute post also makes the fly highly visible to anglers, ensuring accurate drifts even in fading light or choppy water.

When and Where to Use

The Sulphur Parachute is most effective during evening hatches in May and June, but remains productive throughout the summer when Sulphurs are present. It works best on tailwaters, spring creeks, and freestone rivers with substantial Sulphur populations. Fished on fine tippet with a drag-free drift, these fishing flies consistently bring success when trout are keyed in on Sulphur mayflies.
