Description
The Midge Ginny is a refined and realistic midge emerger designed for technical trout in clear water conditions. With its slender profile, sparse ribbing, and a soft thorax or dubbing collar, the Ginny is ideal for mimicking emerging midges or drowned adults drifting just beneath the surface.
This pattern is often tied in black, olive, or gray with subtle contrast—allowing it to disappear into the water column while still offering enough visibility to entice feeding trout. The fly is often used during winter and early spring midge hatches on tailwaters, spring creeks, or slow-moving freestone rivers.
Its delicate silhouette is deadly in calm water, where trout inspect every drift closely. Best fished on 6x or 7x tippet, the Midge Ginny works exceptionally well as a dropper below a dry fly or on a tight-line rig through gentle seams and back eddies.
Whether trout are feeding just below the surface film or hovering mid-column on emerging midges, the Midge Ginny offers the subtle realism required to draw takes from the most selective fish.
