MADAM X

Description

Madam X is a legendary attractor dry fly known for its buoyancy, buggy profile, and versatility. Tied with a bushy elk hair wing, rubber legs, and a dubbed body on a curved hook, it imitates a wide range of large terrestrials and stoneflies. Whether the fish think it’s a hopper, a beetle, or a mutant caddis, the result is often the same—aggressive surface takes.

This pattern excels in summer and early fall when grasshoppers and other terrestrials are active and frequently end up in the water. The rubber legs provide irresistible twitch and movement, while the stout profile keeps it visible and floating high even in choppy riffles or fast pocket water.

Fish the Madam X along grassy banks, under overhanging limbs, or across seams where trout are looking up. It’s also a great top fly in a dry-dropper setup, capable of supporting a beadhead nymph with ease.
