Description

The Chopaka Damsel is a legendary stillwater pattern named after Washington’s Lake Chopaka, one of the best-known trout lakes in the Pacific Northwest. Designed to imitate damsel nymphs, these fly fishing flies are especially effective during summer when trout cruise lake edges feeding on migrating damsels. Its slim, olive body and lifelike movement make it a must-have for any stillwater angler.

Tied with marabou tails, soft hackle fibers, and natural dubbing, the Chopaka Damsel creates a swimming motion that perfectly mimics the slow, undulating movement of real nymphs. Its subtle profile fools even selective trout that have seen plenty of flies. Best fished on a slow hand-twist retrieve near weed beds or drop-offs, it produces explosive takes when damsel migrations are in full swing.

The Chopaka Damsel isn’t limited to Lake Chopaka—it’s effective in lakes and reservoirs across the West and beyond. Trout key in on damsels in stillwater environments, and this proven pattern consistently delivers results. Whether you’re fishing for rainbows, cutthroat, or browns, the Chopaka Damsel is an indispensable part of a stillwater fly selection.
