The Eagle River near Eagle, CO, flows at ~173 CFS at Gypsum, with clear, mid-50s°F water—perfect for fall fly fishing. Cool nights and stable flows make wading ideal from Edwards to Gypsum. Blue-Winged Olives hatch midday, midges all day, and October Caddis at dusk, drawing rainbows, browns (up to 20″+), and cutthroats. Tricos spark risers in slow water; streamers shine in low light. Recommended flies: Parachute Adams #18-20, Elk Hair Caddis #14-16, Zebra Midge #18-22, RS2 #20, or articulated streamers like Woolly Bugger #6-8. Use 5X-6X tippet with dry-dropper or Euro nymphing setups. Upper Eagle (Minturn-Edwards) offers pocket water; lower sections suit floats. Public access is good—check maps. Catch-and-release is key; follow 2-rod, no-bait regs. Mild weather ahead—fish now!
