Description

The Trico Spinner is a delicate dry fly pattern crafted to imitate the spent-wing stage of Tricorythodes mayflies, commonly known as Tricos. These tiny mayflies hatch in incredible numbers during the summer months, especially in the early mornings, creating prolific spinner falls that draw trout to the surface. The spinner stage, with wings splayed flat against the water, is often when trout feed most selectively, making an accurate imitation essential.

These fly fishing flies feature a slim, dark body and transparent or light-colored spent wings, perfectly mimicking the natural insect’s appearance. Its low-floating profile and realistic wing position allow it to sit flush in the surface film, just like naturals that have expired after mating. Because Tricos are extremely small, the Trico Spinner is tied in excellent sizes, often down to size 22–26, making presentation and realism critical.

The Trico Spinner excels on spring creeks, tailwaters, and technical rivers where trout pod up and feed steadily during spinner falls. When fished on ultrafine tippet with a drag-free drift, it’s one of the most productive patterns for summer and early fall mornings. A must-have during the spinner fall out West
